Senior Graduation

On May 31st the seniors at Sprague High School had their last moments here at the school. They have finally graduated and are off to continue their education and their lives. There were speeches given by both the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian. Parent recognition consisted of mothers receiving a bouquet of lilies and fathers receiving a boutonnière. Graduates talked about their future plans, and there was a nice class video of the graduates from when they were younger to their graduating year. Diplomas were handed out by the Mr. Stedman and Mr. Bourne. Tears were shed and it was a good night. (See Pics of set up) (See Pics of graduation)

    State Convention

From May 14th to May 17th the 78th Washington State FFA convention was held at the WSU campus in Pullman.  Every day at least one general session was held with the 2007-2008 State Officers giving retiring addresses and/or giving out awards.  Before each general session began there would be a horribly edited video where the State Officers would sing “Had a Bad Day”, then State Officers would walk in with a horrible remix of the song “Born To Be Wild”.  At the end of the final general session the 2008-2009 State Officers were announced.  After the presidents retiring address he proposed to his girlfriend of 5 years.  In between the general sessions were judging contests and workshops, but the Sprague FFA only went to two on Saturday after a general session.  There were two dances held, after the last general session on Friday and another after the last general session on Saturday, but FFA members were only allowed to go to one of the two dances.  The second dance on Saturday was the one that the Sprague FFA went to.  (See Pics)

District Court

Every year in May there is a Law Day. During this day the Lincoln County District Court hold their court cases at a school. This year Lincoln County District Court was held at Sprague High School on May 13, 2008. The students had the honor of meeting Judge Josh Grant who gave them a chance to ask question about district court or about his career. Most of the cases were just probation violations due to drinking (DUI). However, there was a case brought in where a company sued a man for not paying what he owed after he had his truck serviced there. In return, the man countersued the company saying that his truck was never fixed. All the cases were interesting, and all the defendants had a different story as to why they violated their probation. It was definitely a good learning experience and fun to watch.

Junior Live Stock Show

On May 6th to 11th, the Spokane Livestock show took place in Spokane.  On Tuesday, people showed up to unload their animals and get them weighed.  On Wednesday there was the animal judging.  On Thursday, all the animal barns had the market class animal competition which only the animals that had made the determined weight limit for their particular animal group could enter.  On Friday, the fitting and showing competition took place, which allowed the people who's animals that did not make weight to participate, but they could not win grand of reserve champion. Friday night had many different activities that happened. There were football and kickball games that went on in the camper and tent area.  The round-robin competition went on and to top it off there was the dance, which lasted untill 11:30 P.M.  On Saturday, there was the buyers breakfast followed by the swine and then the goats sale.  Finishing off on Sunday was the lamb sale followed by the beef sale.  All in all, it was a great experience for all SHS students who participated in the show! Sprague High School Cleanup Day

On April 25, 2008 the juniors and seniors at Sprague High School had a day to clean the community of Sprague. They left the school at 8:30 to go to City Hall. At the City Hall everyone was placed in a group to go and clean up the town. Lunch was provided for them, and it consisted of sub sandwiches, pasta, chips, pop/water, and cookies. This year it did not last as long as it usually did because there was not that much to do. However, the day was successful and the students received community service hours. (See pics)

Whitman County Prom

On Saturday March 29 the Whitman county Prom was held at the Fairchild Air Force Base. The Prom started at 8:00pm and ended at 12:00pm. A student said that the music was satisfactory. The prom this year was notably smaller that in the past because it was the Whitman County Prom instead of Bi-County Prom. But, a good time was had by all. (See pics)

Book Fair Begins

The Sprague and Lamont School book fair began on March 26.  It lasted through March 28 so it would coincide with teacher conferences. The book fair is a great way to increase the interest in reading and get books into all students' hands at an affordable price.  School board member Jill Sheffles organizes the event every year.  Thank you to all who help at the book fair and make it such a success! FFA Fun Night

On March 21, the Sprague FFA  had their first fun night of the year.  The 20 students there had fun playing twister and video games, or watching Die Hard With A Vengeance. Students also enjoyed themselves while eating pizza and candy, and drinking refreshing soda pop or juice.  One student was quoted as saying "it was so much I wish they should do it more often."

Olympia Trip

There were four Sprague High School girls that got the opportunity to visit Olympia. All the girls had to do was write an essay explaining the reason(s) they wanted to visit the state capital and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. There were around forty students that attended the trip. All the students loaded a school bus, and off they went. They explored the capital and went to a few universities and colleges.  They all said it was really fun, but there was a lot of walking involved.

  Bi-County Prom Held

Although our school now attends the Whitman County prom, some of our students went to the Bi-County prom that was held this weekend on March 15, 2008. A student said that there was really good music, it was really crazy, and it was fun. The schools that attended were: Davenport, Reardon, Ritzville, Odessa, Liberty Christian, and Harrington. So all together, all the kids had fun and it was a good night.
